Personal observation :
Baseline your applications / system ! Know how much load they can take and how they correlate to actual user numbers. To many times I hear people wanting me to have their system accomodate fictitious loads (e.g. 4 times as much! or 1000 users) and they have no idea how many their current system handles. So baseline - important for doing capacity measurement.

Great video! I like the concept of having such a list - perhaps it should be called a 'health check' that companies should look to execute on a periodic basis (yearly) ?

In addition to what you mentioned - I think that companies need to not only learn to make backups but document what their disaster plan (business continuity plan) should be in the case of a true emergency. Sometimes its not as simple as just restoring from tape but rebuilding a complete server and network.

I also would suggest realizing what your availability / uptime requirements are.. because I have seen critical systems running on a single machine (single point of failure). Companies need to start looking at architectural solutions such as fail-over / load-balancing and replication to help them overcome simple glitches that could take one server down for whatever reason.

Great episode! Keep them coming!
